Frequently Asked Questions

Who can join?

Any licensed, experienced property appraiser with a clean professional record. We work with appraisers who carry insurance-industry credentials (IICRC, HAAG, Xactimate certifications) and who have hands-on field experience.

What states do you cover?

All 50 states. We assign work geographically and prioritize appraisers licensed in their home market.

How are appraisers paid?

Flat fee per assignment, with the option of hourly billing on large losses. Payment is processed within 14 days of the signed award.

Do I need my own E&O insurance?

Yes. Errors & Omissions coverage of at least $1M aggregate is required.

How do you assign work?

By specialty, location, capacity, and past performance. Top-rated appraisers see more — and bigger — assignments.

Can I still take outside work?

Absolutely. American Appraisals appraisers are independent contractors free to maintain other engagements, as long as there's no conflict of interest on a given file.
